NYSE TICK Posts Highest Intraday Low in Weeks

NYSE TICK only traded down to -712 at its lowest point of the day Thursday, the highest low in three weeks. Unusually high TICK lows tend to precede below-average market performance the following session, particularly when the SPX hits a 15-day high on the same day. This has occurred a total of 41 times since 2005, each of which is listed below along with the S&P500′s next-day performance. One thing stands out – the market usually closed near unchanged levels the next day. The S&P did not gain more than 1% in any of the last 41 occurrences and only gained more than 0.5% once. Should we see a solid up open on Friday, this tends to suggest prices will most likely head back towards unchanged levels into the close.
