Relative ES Volume

By on Monday, December 7th, 2009 at 9:38 pm

Brett Steenbarger recently posted on the topic of Relative Volume in E-Mini S&P futures (see column) and its importance in determining the likelihood of a trend day vs. range day. Subscribers interested in following relative ES volume throughout the day can now pull up this link for a chart that’s updated every three minutes from open to close (RTH). It highlights today’s ES volume in blue, along with the 30-day median volume in green. Volume for each of the past 30 sessions can also be seen in light grey, and the bottom chart highlights how today’s session is shaping up relative to the past 30 days. For more background material, see some of these great posts from Brett…

We’ll be rolling out a few different versions of these charts in the coming days. These alternate charts will provide most of the same information in a simpler format that should should be easier to read, particularly early in the session. As always, comments and suggestions are welcome!
